Biography:
Esik was the son of Lord Arkan Viras of Clan Sherkoz, the governor of the Khotoi province. As a young boy growing up in a noble family of Ikhan before the civil war, he was trained in the ways of the Zharai, which taught him both how to fight and how to govern. You see, the Zharai of the mid-to-late 19th centuries, as they had since the late 17th, had increasingly merged with the nobility, with the once-Royal Clan of Khasa being one of these clans to take on the teachings of the Zharai for it's own members. His mother's family, on the other hand, had ruled Ikhan since the days of the Arkan the Great as her Emperors (and occasionally Empresses too). While on the surface, it might've been odd for a provincial governor to marry into the Imperial family, it must be remembered that his father and brother had both served as the Grand Duke of Vrashe. It is a well-known fact that this marriage was not out of love, but purely due to the politics of the time. Arkan was known to have been an ambitious man, after all, seeking to match the achievements of his father and his elder brother in whatever way he could.
Such was the world that Esik was born into, one of turmoil, intrigue, and competing interests even while the Ardian Empire carved off parts of the nation in the first war. Despite this, it cannot be said that he had a rough childhood, after all, being the son of an Imperial governor as well as the nephew and later cousin of the Emperor certainly had it's perks. No, the boy had it good in comparison even to his peers, but that was only as a preparation for what was to come.
Starting at the age of eight, Esik was taken under his father's (and others) wing to train as a Zharai. Little did they know at the time that such a role would soon be obsolete. The training would be grueling for him, but it would shape him into the unflinching leader that he was known as in his later life. By the age of sixteen, with his coming-of-age, Esik was a fully-fledged Zharai rather than just his father's ward, after which he would assist in the administration of his home-province.
Esik, like many other nobles in Ikhan, attended the enthronement of Arkan IV in 1871.
In 1882, Esik joined the Loyalist Forces in the Arashin Civil War alongside his brother. The young man would find himself sent to various fronts across the Empire, culminating in his service during the Kharatan campaign, a period which would prove especially trying for him. In this time, he would lose his brother, Bershai, thrusting him to the front of the line of succession for the House of Viras. It is said that Esik didn't take the death of his elder brother well, resulting in him becoming more withdrawn from the world. While detailed records simply do not exist, it is now believed that Esik suffered from PTSD for the rest of his life as a result of his experiences in the war.
In 1888, Esik inherited the position as head of House Viras from his father, who had died earlier that year. While his father had, in the last years of his life, served as the Imperial Chancellor, Esik would not inherit that title, given that it was granted by the Emperor at his pleasure. Nonetheless, when the Chancellor, Varen Ikal, died, Esik was appointed to the position, serving as it for the rest of his life.
If there were any achievement that Esik considered his greatest, it wouldn't've been becoming the Chancellor, nor would it be leading Ikhan through the early phase of the Great War. It wouldn't even have been heading the committee to draft the Constitution of Ikhan, as important as it was. Rather, he saw his greatest achievement— his greatest honour— to have been father to his daughters, Misko and Kana, as well as his son, Berai.
Nonetheless, Esik would become known for his services to the Empire, leading to him becoming known as the "Father of the Nation" as a result of his actions that led to the establishment of the Modern state of Ikhan. Upon his death, he was laid to rest in Niras in what would be, up to that point, the largest state funeral in Arashin history. He was 75.
