Below are a series of quotes from the era of the "Great Wars", known in Ikhan as the "Ardian Wars" or more often as the "Great War", the "Second/Third (depending on how you view it) Ardo-Arashin war", and the "Continuation War". These quotes can include anything from music (though translated in a way to sound palatable to English-speakers) to speeches to newspapers and anything in between.
The First Great War (1914 - 1918)
"All that survived was ash and dust,
across the way, screams in tongues we did not know.
Such infernal cries, the last gasps of men like us.
Such horror, such tragedy,
the reckoning we were promised,
a nightmare for all involved."
— Journal of Berai Akanari, the Battle of Kaisak (1915)
"My fellow citizens,
Today, we embark on a great campaign.
Ahead, the future awaits us; behind, our heritage follows.
I know there is great fear in the hearts of our people, I too feel such concern, after all.
Many of us will not live to see the new year, but know this:
Though we fall, our children will survive.
The Ardian Empire must fall!
Forwards, citizens! For the Emperor! For Ikhan!"
— Esik Viras ve Khasa, Imperial Chancellor (1914)
"When they came to us, they weren't soldiers.
They were mere children, frightened and confused.
Sure, plenty of them were excited to fight, but... None of them were ready.
If we're being frank, then none of us could be.
But I suppose that's the point.
Someone had to whip them into shape, after all."
— Sergeant Israi Jikal on the training process of the Great War, (interview in 1958)
"Nationalism is like a plague,
it spreads and festers wherever it takes root.
And like a plague, though not physical like those that ail our bodies,
it can only be fought by putting aside our differences and working together."
— Arkan Katras on the leadup to the First Great War (1953)
