"If this is to be the end of the Arashin as a people, and if we are to go in fire, then let us be consumed alongside the Ardians in this flame. Let every blade of grass conceal a soldier, every treetop a rifle, every mountain a mortar. Let the streets run red in the blood of the invaders, and let not step backwards be taken. Let them come to our beaches, to our cities, to our mountains, but never, never surrender! Show no mercy to the Ardian dogs; let the fury of the Zharai guide you!" — Varen Ikir, Imperial Chancellor and Marshall on the landing of Ardian forces in southern Ikhan (c.1941)
The Second Great War, also known as the Continuation War and the Fourth Ardo-Arashin War in Ikhan, was a conflict between 1939 and 1945 between the Empire of Ikhan and the Ardian Empire. For many, many years, both nations had fought a series of wars against one another. It was expected (and rightfully so) that this would be the last war they would fight, whether it meant the destruction of the Ardian Empire or the complete annihilation of Ikhan. In the end, though it led to the collapse of the Ardian Empire, it also severely crippled Ikhan's economy until the early 1970s. The war, at least in Ikhan, was considerably more brutal than previous wars, with the Empire of Ikhani taking 2.6 million military casualties and an estimated 5 to 7 million civilian.
The war saw the last large-scale use of chemical weapons by the Empire of Ikhan, primarily during the Ardian offensives of 1941 in Southern Ikhan, as well as the near-destruction of the Magai (an indigenous group separate from the Arashin in southern Ikhan) as a people.
